I was hoping that we would be able to put a filter on a folder and it would list items that met the filter criteria from those those feed items already in the database, where as it appears it might only be those we are yet to fetch. Is this the case? If so, can we do a save-search method of some kind?
Andy
Hi,
a filter always matches all fitting news in the db.
If I get you right you fail to match older news.
Did you enable the db clean-up under
Tools -> Options -> Feeds - Tab Clean-Up?
If so the news get deleted according to those clean-up settings.
To solve your problem you can disable the clean-up or modify the settings to your needs.
Please be aware that without db clean-up the db size will increase over the time. That might slow down QuiteRss.
Kind regards,
Sheldon
No its not that Sheldon - I watch a piece of news arrive today - on cfr.org "what China could learn...." - published today. Set up a filter - Title contains China - Select all feeds - Run Search - nothing happens.
However I thought as this was in the context menu, of a folder, in the feeds window, that the results would be delivered to that folder. However I just noticed that all it is doing is selecting a feed with the word China in the feed title, from the right hand window, i.e the filter box - but isnt that what the search "magnifying glass" above does.
What I was hoping for was a result set of all articles with China in the article title, or decription, (or whatever the crtiteria specifies).

Ah! I see. This works a little bit different in QuiteRss. It's a bit tricky!:-)
If you create a filter you have to set an action under "Perform these actions".
In your case I would recommend to use f.e "Add Star".
If you apply this filter you can select your folder and use the predefined filter "Show Starred".
That will perform the filtering you expect.
Oh I see, thats not going to cut it then, will stay with RSSOwl then for the time being. As it seems like I will have the option for one filtered view. On RSSOwl I have employed 60 or so saved-searches! THis way I can watch all my interests easily and concentrate on certain priorities without having to keep reentering search criteria - after all I could do that on Google
Thanks anyway.
I guess you didn't get it right. By a news filter you can configure a predefined filter for certain feeds.
There is no reentering necessary. And you can have a many of them as you like.
Yes you're right I didnt get it because obviously a "News Filter" could apply to a holistic view of the "the news" as opposed to a more atomic view of news from a given feed!. In my "use case" I need that specific news is filtered across a limited set of valid sources, so that I can ensure I am not burdonned with poor source and divergence from topic. So I want to filter across the set of valid sources for a given topic. Some topics have more importance for me than others at any given time. There are two neagtives with your approach:
It maybe the design differs from my needs, that does not make it a poor solution for others, but for me as it stands at the present this a serious design flaw.
All that said I shall keep my eye on your product because it has other promising aspects. And of course RSSOwl is suffering a serious lack of energy - my reason for looking in the first place.
Have a great day.
