Here's an example:
https://lobste.rs/rss
Any feed of that type can't be added or updated. Something in my packages changed recently, but I'm not certain what package changed to cause this particular issue. Can anyone help?

I wanted to add that this feed works: http://feeds.dzone.com/webdev
Hi,
I tested it and the feed
https://lobste.rs/rss
works fine with QuiteRSS version 0.18.4. Please have in mind that this is a https link. You may have problems with some certificate. Is QuiteRSS asking for some certificate?
Kind regards,
Sheldon
It was working fine with 17.0 also, until a few days ago. I was hoping you might be able to provide some insight on what could have changed on my system that those specific types of RSS feeds don't work, while other ones do.

For sure I am not able to tell what was changed on your system. That's why I asked for the certificate regarding https. If such a certificate gets expired it can cause problems.
Ah, QuiteRSS doesn't ask for anything in particular.. it simply fails to add the feed. It says it times out. Also, the certificate on that site is not expired.
This problem is affecting multiple servers. All of them have one thing in common, if you open the RSS link in your browser they look identical. I don't know much about RSS formatting, I assume this is a difference between RSS or ATOM or something. All of the links that look like the one I provided will not update, but they used to work. And they can't be added as new feeds either, which also used to work. The example of a working feed looks different, and allowed me to add it and also updates properly.
So there must be some difference between how one feed is added/updated, and the others are added/updated, and if you know what that is, that could shed some light on what is broken on my system.
I tried reinstalling quiterss and that didn't fix it.
Is there a log file kept somewhere? Or a way to enable logging? That would probably make this a lot easier.
You can have a look at the file debug.log in the app folder.
I tested it again with the version 0.18.4 without any problems.
Are you using this version or 0.17.0 as you mentioned above?
I looked in ~/.config/QuiteRSS and /usr/share/QuiteRSS and I don't see a debug.log anywhere.
I am using 17.0 presently as I wasn't able to get 18.4 to compile.
Please try the actual version 0.18.4. That insures that we are talking about the same app.
Anyway timeout issues are normally not related to apps like QuiteRss.
In general this issues occur if there is a connection problem like
- wrong address (not in your case because I checked it)
- using a proxy
- address or app is blocked by a firewall
- certificate issues (SSL, https)
What happens if you open the link in your web browser?

As I have stated already, 18.4 doesn't compile. Is there a package available for Debian? And are you saying there is no debug log in version 17.0?
The feeds load fine in a browser. It would be a thousand times easier to locate the source of the problem if there were a debug log.
@funcy-dcm:
There seems to be a compiling issue regarding Debian. Please have a look!
So how do I access the debug log in 17.0?
Hi I would like to know how to access the debug log in 17.0
Sorry, but you are working with a very old version. So if you can't find a debug.log on your machine I guess that there was none those days.
That's why I redirected the issue to the project manager. Unfortunately he didn't reply yet.
Now it seems that the program can connect to those streams sometimes, but randomly. If I keep retrying it connects. Then it fails again later. This definitely has nothing to do with a proxy.
When it fails, the progress indicator at the bottom doesn't even show up. When it succeeds the indicator shows progress as expected.
Perhaps if someone could add 18.4 to Jessie backports that'd solve this
You are using a proxy?! You didn't mention that before. This was one of my points above.
Of course that can be the reason. Especially if the page uses https. That's why you sometimes get data and sometimes not.
Please try it without the proxy.
No, I didn't say I was using a proxy, I said this is not a proxy issue. I can see how that could be confusing.
Anyway! If you sometimes get data and sometimes not there seems to be a connection problem not related to QuiteRSS. Here it's really all or nothing.
