Lost feeds

Hi guys,

Really enjoying QuiteRSS! Great prog.

I just updated Linux Lite to v 3.0, which required a fresh install. I had my entire user profile backed up (actually, I have the system files backed up as well) so I thought I would be safe. But now I'm not finding my feeds anywhere. I've looked at <user>/.config/quiterss, .local/share (nothing there at all), usr/bin and haven't found them.

The old Linux used an older version of Quite, so I'm not sure if that matters. Is there any way to find the old feeds?

Thanks.

Sheldon
Hi,

Hi,

please look for the file feeds.db in your backup. This holds your feed data.
To get back your settings look for the file QuiteRSS.ini in your backup.

If you copy these files to your new installation (overwrite the current files) and start QuiteRSS you should find all your feeds and settings.

Kind regards,

Sheldon

Thanks much Sheldon. The

Thanks much Sheldon. The settings I think I have back, but I'm coming up empty on "feeds.db". I even restored the entire old installation to another hard drive then searched the whole thing. A search for "feeds" shows something under a mlt/share/pal folder, but it doesn't look pertinent.

If you made a backup of your

If you made a backup of your old QuiteRSS the feeds.db should be included.
Just look up the location in your current new installation. That is where you should find the file in your old system.
Usually QuiteRSS.ini and feeds.db are located in the same folder.

Awesome! Thanks so much. When

Awesome! Thanks so much. When I tried subbing onto a new feed to see where it was stored, even then I couldn't find feeds.db. That made me realize there had to be something wrong with my search. I found a hidden setting to enable "hidden" file searching, which in linux means they are under a "." prefix hierarchy. As soon as I set that, I started finding both the new and the old .db file.

Everything's great now. Thanks much!

Hi,

Hi,

Me again. Sorry for the bother. I just updated from 18.3 to 18.4, on ubuntu 16.04. I did it via adding the package repository and it went flawlessly.

However I lost settings and feeds again. I found the .ini file so I don't think that's a problem. However I have not found the feeds.db in the backups. The new install has a feeds.db at /home/paul/.local/share/QuiteRss/QuiteRss/feeds.db. (That's 15MB, and there's a much smaller one at /home/paul/.local/share/data/QuiteRss/QuiteRss/feeds.db, which seems to be a stub.)

However there is no corresponding feeds.db in the backup file structure, which should be complete. There are two feeds.db....bak files, but they are tiny.

I should have complete backup access to all files that were present, going back for weeks. I'm mystified why settings and the database wouldn't be automatically carried over on an update.

Ugh...just started quiterss

Ugh...just started quiterss and opened up just to see everything been completely reset for some reason.
Well at least I have a fairly recent feeds.opml but last feeds.db I have is from 4months ago so losing some content Sad

Also added a bunch of feeds and completely re-arranged them since that last db backup, wonder if I can restore the mix of the 2.

I've done several installs

I've done several installs since this, and have solved the problem by backing up the entire user folder.

Hi,

Hi,

to prevent data loss I recommend performing a backup of feeds.db and QuiteRSS.ini on a regular base.

Kind regards,

Sheldon

Perhaps you can restore (cut and paste manually) from .local/share/QuiteRss/QuiteRss/debug.log
