Nothing at all in QuiteRSS window!

Running QuiteRSS v. 0.18.2, Windows 7 64-bit

I'm not sure whether this is a question or a bug so I'll start here and thanks in advance.

My problem is that everything has disappeared from my QuiteRSS window. Before that, the categories column had disappeared but I had the list of feeds and their content. Originally I had set it to show categories on the left, feeds in the middle and content on the right. I don't remember what I did to set that up but I can't find a way to get it back. Here's what I have now:

Blank QuiteRSS Window

I've tried rebooting the machine but that didn't change anything. I tried importing a backup from earlier in the month. It showed that it had imported it but still nothing shows.

I'm hoping someone will have an idea of what I should do to get it working again.

Thanks so much.

Hi,

Hi,

let's start with some questions to figure it out.

Are the files feeds.db and QuiteRss.ini present in the QuiteRss folder?
If so, do you find your specific settings under Tools -> Options in QuiteRss?
What is the size of your feeds.db file? Maybe it's corrupted.

If you have a backup containing this files just copy only this 2 files to your QuiteRss folder.

If all this doesn't help just install a fresh QuiteRSS and make sure that it works fine.
Afterwards please copy the 2 files mentioned above from your backup to your new QuiteRss folder.

Kind regards,

Sheldon

I have the exact problem like

I have the exact problem like above when I disable "Store a DB in memory" in Options and browse through feeds for enough time. Enable this option solve the problem.

I'd like to ask what exactly that option do because with that option enabled, it eats about 600MB of my memory, but with that option disable, it's only 200MB - a great speed booster for my computer.

Hope this problem will be fixed soon because I want to disable that option to speed up my computer.

Sheldon
The option enables QuiteRSS

The option enables QuiteRSS to store the file feeds.db in the memory.
This explains your memory problem.

If your feeds.db is that big you should enable the cleanup options under

Tools-> Options -> Feeds - > Clean-up

I think disable that option would be more appropriate here because I don't want to delete any feeds. Is there another way to reduce memory usage without losing my feeds?

Unfortunately there is no

Unfortunately there is no other way. Please keep in mind that the db size will increase on a long run. That might slow down QuiteRSS. But that's a normal behaviour for all apps.

It's up to you how you handlle your news but I would recommend to consider some clean-up. Normally feeds contain actual news and they are outdated after some time. So what's the advantage of keeping them?

But if you really need all the news you could backup the files feeds.db and QuiteRSS.ini and do the clean-up afterwards. So you can get your old news back by restoring this backup.

Seem like I have to wait for the "Store a DB in memory" problem to be fixed. Hope this project still active, last update was 6 months ago though.

Sheldon
Actually there is no problem.

Actually there is no problem. Depending on your RAM 600 MB in memory can cause a problem.
But this is true for every app. So there is nothing to fix.

The project is still actiive!

Actually, I think "Nothing at

Actually, I think "Nothing at all in QuiteRSS window!" is counted as a problem, am I right?

Not if it is related to your

Not if it is related to your hardware respectively RAM.
